Lufthansa kicks off first Aviation Blockchain Challenge
Lufthansa Innovation and SAP.io Berlin Foundry kick off the first Aviation Blockchain Challenge worldwide in order to explore potential opportunities and drive adoption of Blockchain technology in the airline industry.
The main objective of the collaboration is to attract the world’s most talented blockchain entrepreneurs by providing an environment to experiment with new business models.
“Combining Lufthansa’s innovation ecosystem and massive industry expertise along with access to SAP technologies, application programming interfaces and mentorship will enable us to jointly identify innovative use cases that have the potential to disrupt the airline industry,” the official announcement says.

The Blockchain Aviation Challenge is divided into 3 categories: the Airline Challenge, the Traveler Challenge and the Supplier Challenge.
The aim of the Airline Challenge is to make airline operations flawless and more accurate. The Traveler Challenge seeks to promote solutions which make the travel experience more efficient and convenient and the Supplier Challenge is for ideas that enhance transparency of supply chains and maintenance, which are important factors of safe and reliable operations of airlines.
